Gideon
Name: Gideon Astor Falke
RP: Clockwork Fragments
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Description:Gideon is around five foot ten, darkly tanned with a mass of dreadlocks that fall to the middle of his back. He normally pulls them back to keep out of his way when he's working. He has dark gray-green eyes that have flecks of brown and gold in them. His hands are callused and worn from the landscape work that he does around town. He is of a slender yet muscular build and very fit from the manual labor he does every day. He has no need to work out.
Gid is not one for labels or fashion so the majority of his clothing is hand made or from thrift stores. Most of his clothes are loose and flowing. While he's not one for wearing many accessories he does have a few that he's always wearing. He wears a hemp macrame bracelet on his left wrist, and a teal, green, yellow and brown macrame choker that his younger cousin made him. He wears plastic green glasses because of his allergy to metal and cork posts in his gauged ears. He also owns a pair of wood frames that he wears often, despite his friends telling him they make him look like a hippie.
Personality:
Gid is very down to earth; he's very easy to approach and open to meeting new people. He loves learning new things as well as sharing his knowledge with others. While he's an optimistic, he's not naive about people and how thing work in the world. he's got a personal rule about people messing with him or screwing him over, they are only get away with it once. While he can't tell a joke to save his life, he laughs easily and can see the humorous side of life. There are a few things that he's jaded about: his birth parents and the government. He has no problem taking responsibility for his actions and does so without a complaint. He has high moral standards for himself and often for the people he hangs around with. Sometimes he can come across as judgmental but he tries to keep that to a minimum.
Gideon dislikes how corporations brainwash kids into believing they need to wear their "brand" clothing to be cool or in the in crowd. It's all for them to make more money off of already hard working people who just want to make their kids happy. Government wise, he hates how the government rules people and doesn't really allow them the freedoms they are supposed to have. His adoptive mother tried to make a greenhouse on her land, which was big enough to have one but the local town government ruled against it saying that they couldn't allow it because her neighbors didn't want it and would find it unsightly.
The neighbors actually tend to buy a lot of their produce or trade things for her produce so they didn't really care about her having a greenhouse as it would allow them to get it for a longer period of time. The State government pretty much said it because they didn't want her using land they wanted to put a street through or zone as commercial. Imminent domain stuff and all.
Biography
Childhood: His childhood started out kind of rocky when his birth mother decided she couldn't take care of him at the age of 5 and left him with her older sister. Thankfully his Aunt was ready to take care of him and made him hers officially before he turned 6. He had a happy life with his Aunt, she was doting, affectionate and very nurturing which was exactly what he needed after having been dragged from one home to the next.
His first interest in plants was because of his Aunt and her enormous garden which she lived off of all year round. He loved the feel of the dirt between his toes and the feel of belonging and warmth the earth gave him.
Schooling:
Because of his constant moving around at a young age, Gid was behind his schooling which prompted his Aunt(mother) to hire a tutor to get him up to speed with other kids his age. It was a tough struggle at first, with Gid preferring to playing in the dirt and plants than sitting inside and being drilled about boring facts. Finally, the tutor had the genius idea of using plants and animals to teach him the things he needed to know. After that it didn't take long to get him to where he needed to be. Elementary school was fun and exciting, especially the kids that he got to play with during recess. The teachers loved him, and liked his unusual questions. He excelled the most in reading and science.
Middle school was a bit more difficult for him than his elementary years, the kids were mean and very judgmental about what he dressed in and his funny accent. (His mother and the tutor were Amish and spoke dutch around him a lot.) He tried to ignore it, but it just got worse and worse until he finally complained to his Mom about it. She could see that he wasn't really all that happy and decided to see what other options there might be for him. When she found there was a program that he could do from home, she pulled him out of the public school and set to teaching him from the home. She made sure to find social activities that he could get involved with, like community service projects and the local 4-H club. Getting a more personal hands on education helped Gid in more ways than his Mom thought. Not only did he learn to be his own person and how to be more inquisitive about things, but he was able to be himself and not care what people thought about him.
Once Gid hit 13, he felt ready to return to public school and asked his Aunt of he could go. She was a bit surprised but pleased as she had started a new relationship and wanted some more free time to let it develop. It was in this year that Gid got into reggae music and decided to grow his hair out long into dreadlocks. His aunt was a bit taken aback by it but didn't object since he wasn't doing it in a rebellious act so she allowed it. While he acclimated to pierced and then gauged ears during his freshman year he never did get into dressing like anyone else and despite peer pressure never did any drugs or other risky things. He took up skateboarding for all of a week and then quit after he broke his wrist.
School was a constant struggle for him and he had to study for hours every night to be able to pull off his B-C average. He thought about dropping out several times but knew better than to even suggest it to his Mother. She was insistent that he finished High school and then he could decide where to go from there. While she hoped he'd go to college she never pressured him about it, leaving the decision up to him. She knew that he wouldn't be happy indoors away from what he loved.
His last two years in High school were a whirlwind of activity. His mother had found someone she loved and was preparing to get married, as well as move into a different home. Gideon kind of felt left out, because he felt like an interloper into the marriage. He was going to gain younger step siblings and wasn't sure how to deal with it. He was happy that his mother had found someone but also felt like he should find his own place once he was done with Highschool.
Gideon was a bit surprised when his soon to be Step father took him aside and told him that he had an apartment above the garage for him and that he was welcome to it. He rather liked the idea of living close to his mother, but having his own space apart from the rest of the family. After coming to terms with and negotiating a rent price as well as work he could do around the yard for the space Gideon happily moved in.
Gideon is happy with his new family and enjoys walking his step siblings to their school every morning and picking them up after work. He was able to land a job with a landscaping company and is working his way up on the crew. He hopes to one day build his own company and work for himself. He's been working with the same company for over two years now, he started doing it part time when he was 16.
Training: When he had troubles with kids in middle school his mother enrolled him in a Karate class. Over the years Gideon has continued in studying karate, even though he's never had to use it. He's now close to getting his black belt in it and is quite good at it.
Being Called: Gideon's calling came to him one night when he was sleeping under the stars in his back yard. Suddenly a new awareness of the earth invaded his senses and he could feel how the grass, rocks, and earth felt with him laying on top of them. It was an eerie sense and he knew instantly that his life was somehow different.
Element: Gideon's element is Earth, which he didn't find all surprising with his affinity and love of Gaia. It fits his personality rather well, he's durable, warm and inviting and willing to spread knowledge to those who are willing to learn. And when messed with, like Earth he is unflinching in exacting revenge.
He is now able to control and sometimes communicate with Earth and the plants that spring forth. There is also the odd and tricky gift of being able to blend in with nature around him, a camouflage type of affect.
Weapons: Gid has a staff that he made himself out of an old piece of redwood that he got in California when on vacation. While he has had no formal training in how to use it, he's got some natural talent with it. He also has a flute which he plays to some of his plants. Since his receiving his gifts he's noticed that the music helps him concentrate his focus on the plants and in helping them grow faster.
Strengths: Gideon's has great stamina and strength from the work he does outside. he can probably out lift most other guys his age and size. he's got perfect balance, and usually can't be moved because of how dense and compact he is.
Weaknesses: His control over the camouflage ability isn't very strong so he's constantly losing hold on it which really annoys him. He is deathly allergic to metal, especially when touching it. Which is one of the reasons that he won't ride in most vehicles and avoids it at all costs.
