Relationship with Family
Jai has always been the odd one out in his family: his older sister is really close to her mother and his younger brother is the miniature verson of their father. Jai has always felt like he's on the outside looking in on what he wishes he could have.
He finds his father frightening because of how assertive and serious he is. His father rarely initiates time with him and that's the only way Jai would spedn time with him. He's too afraid to approach him about anything.
His mother is too busy running the household and keeping things running perfectly for her family to give him much attention. Jai tries to engage his mother in conversation but finds his choices often horrify and frighten her. She tends to scare easily and his talk of bugs, spiders and reptiles often cause her to freak out or faint.
He was at one time really close to his younger brother. Then his brother's interests turned to music where he showed a lot of natural born talent. Harshad is so focused at becoming the best he can be that he doesn't spend much time on anything else.
His older sister is the only one that will seek him out and spend time with him. For some odd reason insects don't bother her nor does his talk of them. If it weren't for her and his animals and insects he wouldn't have any friends. he's rather sad that she'll be done at Hogwarts and married within the next couple of years. He doesn't really look forward to her moving on with her life but he doesn't say anything because she seems so happy.

History
Parent's History
Devadas and Anjari first met when they attended Hogwarts as children. Anjari's sleek black cherry hair attracted Devadas' attention for the first time at a Quidditch match between their Houses. On impulse he made his way over to her and asked if he could sit by her. It dint' matter to him that she was a couple of years younger or that she was a Gryffindor. He just knew that she had stolen his heart.
He spent the next four years being a friend to her despite all the ribbing and teasing he was getting from his House mates. It wasn't until his last year at Hogwart's that he actually told her how he felt. Despite her youth, Anjari had also developed deep affections and love for the older Ravenclaw.
After he graduated, with high marks and honors, the two of them approached and spoke to their very traditional Indian families. Much to their surprise both sets of parents were happy with the match and rather delighted. It was decided the two would have a long courtship period of three years before their parents could get a proper Indian wedding together.
Those three years flew past rather quickly, and they kept in touch regularly while she was still in school and he was starting his training to become an Auror. At the end of those three years, they were married in a very fancy ceremonial wedding. Since his work was in England after the wedding they made their home in Essex and started trying to start a family; despite their parents' advice to wait awhile.
Two years later they welcomed their first child, Divya into the world. They decided to wait until she was older before they tried again. It wasn't until she was around four when Anjari found herself pregnant again. This time they welcomed a son; Jai into the family.
Childhood
Jai was much different than his sister Divya; while she had been a calm composed child, he proved to be squirmy and a very light sleeper. As he got older, they noticed his fixation on bugs and thought it rather odd. They had no idea that it would prove to be something that would continue as an obsession of his as he grew older.
A few years later, Harshad was born, and he had the same disposition as Jai, only music seemed to help calm him. He and Jai were super close until Harshad turned six, then he completely became obsessed with music and let it consume his every moment.
Jai was taught about the magicking world, and often saw his parents, grandparents and older cousins using it all the time. His sister was in her third year at Hogwarts when he finally got to go with her and his father to Diagon Alley. He was enthralled and amazed by what he saw, and became very excited about when he'd get to attend the school. He could barely contain his excitement when he found out that there were magical creatures that were even more exotic than normal insects.
He spent the next three years begging his parents for more books on magical creatures and studying everything he could get his hands on. He slowly accumulated a rather large collection of strange insects, spiders, a couple of snakes and lizards. Despite his parent's fear of his strange pets, Jai was able to care for them and keep them from escaping..most of the time.
On the morning of his birthday, the breakfast table was visited by an owl with a letter in it's beak. Jai nearly had a panick attack, because he had one of his insects in his shirt pocket and the bird nearly ate it. Thankfully his father was able to distract the bird while he got his pet to safety. When he got back his father handed him the letter. Jai opened it and ripped it open. A grin filled his face as he read the letter aloud.
The rest of the day was spent in celebration and that weekend his parents took him to Diagon Alley to get all his school supplies. The first couple of weeks Jai read through all his school books in an eagerness to see what he would learn during the school year. After a month, he went back to playing with his insects and deciding which ones he'd secret away to Hogwarts.
MISCELLANEOUS
The Sorting: Jai wasn't paying attention to what the headmaster was saying, though his eyes were fixed in the right direction. In actuality they were focused on the giant spider spinning a web behind the headmaster's chair. His fingers twitched and he held his breath as he watched in awe. He fervently wished he had his camera so he could take a picture. Sadly he hadn't been allowed to bring it, supposedly there was something about Hogart's magic that messed with electronics. He idly wondered if watches had the same problem, though he could have sworn he had seen a kid wearing several of them when he had first arrived.
"Hey! It's your turn!" Someone barked into his ear and nudged him forward with a shove. "Get up there!"
Jai nearly fell as he walked into the first marble step in front of him. He blinked in confusion and then hopped up the stairs to take on a seat on the stool there. he tried to ignore the laughter that wafted through the room when the sorting hat fell down completely engulfing his head and face. Inside he frowned and reached up and tugged it up and held it on top of his rather small head.
"Hmm..well you're an intriguing one. I don't think I've ever come across someone like you before. You have a little bit of that would fit in any of the Houses. Intelligence, but only about what you're interested in. Brave and true, and quite witty when you want to be. But just where to put you? What house do you think you would do well in?"
Jai blinked, a bit surprised to hear the hat asking him. He thought the hat was supposed to choose for him. "Well I do think I'd like Gryffindor. My mum says it's a great House."
The hat fell silent as it thought that over for a moment, then it roared, "GRYFFINDOR!"
Jai was rather stunned by the resounding cheering and clapping that erupted from the Gryffindor table. With a cherry smile he hopped off of the stool and bounded quickly across the floor to join them.
"Welcome to Gryffindor chap!" An older kid proclaimed slapping him heartily on his back.
Jai was enthralled by all the happy faces around him, welcoming him into their midst. It was like a homecoming, something he had wanted for a very long time. Strange that he had to travel from his real home in India to find his true home in Gryffindor.
Patronus:
Jai looked around the Forbidden Forest warily as he tried to find the trail back to the Hogwart's grounds. Why again had he gone this far into the scary woods? Well there had been that trial of spiders going out of the boy's bathroom on the ground floor that had caught his attention. He still wondered where they had gotten off to. Though now he wasn't worried about them seeing as it was nearing dusk and he couldn't find his way back. He really needed to pay more attention to where he was going from now one. Getting lost in the forest was not his idea of a good time.
"If only I had a light of some sort that would tell people that I'm lost out here." He muttered rubbing his tingling arms. It was getting colder and he hadn't thought to wear his sweater.
"Oh duh." He pulled his wand out of his pocket and cried, "Expecto Patronum!"
A silvery light shone from the tip of his wand and then steadily grew into a ball of light that poured out to take the shape of a slithering snake which shot up into the now purple sky leaving a silver trail of glowing light behind it.
"Ooh," Jai exclaimed cheerfully as he watched his patronus slither back and forth in the sky. "It's soo pretty!"
Boggart:
Jai stopped in front of the boggart nervously spinning his wand in his right hand, trying to remember what he was supposed to do. The Boggart suddenly shifted from the marrionette professor into a spinning black whirl and then into a giant snarling panther. Jai's eyes widened and stepped back in alarm as the panther shifted it's feet staring at him with shining green eyes.
"Remember, think of something funny to counter your fear." The DADA professor reminded him.
Jai's eyes suddenly focused in on the agitated swirling panther's tail. "RIDIKULOUS!" He cried, brandishing his wand at it. A flare of light swirled forth and hit the Panther's tail.
The tail began to suddenly lengthen and turn a bright green. The tail continued to morph until it became a giant python's head and body attached to the back end of the panther. It twisted and started to wrap itself around the panther's body and squeezed it super hard. The Panther's eyes bugged out and it tried to struggle to get out of the python's grasp but it had no hopes of escaping.
A moment later the python unlatched it's jaw and began to slowly devour the panther head first much to the horror of every one else in the room.
"I-I think that's enough of that." The professor said through a strangled tone and with a flick of his wand forced the boggart back into it's box.
"Aww, but we didn't get to see the best part!" Jai protested sadly.
"Ugh, weirdo." "Freaky kid, why would he think we would want to see that?" "That was super disgusting." Rang out from the other students in the room.
Jai just ignored them and walked back to his desk in disappointment. It just wasn't fair! He had always wanted to see a panther get devoured whole by a python. Why couldn't the others just allow him that one pleasure without ruining it? Spoilsports!
Mirror of Erised:
Jai gazed at the mirror, his eyes brimming with tears. It was so beautiful! So lovely! He was surrounded by the most exquisite, the rarest insects in the world! He reached out to touch them and was saddened to find that it was just a fake image. His face fell and he turned away. What was the use of seeing that what he most desired when it wasn't real?
